Jesus Is The Calm In The Storm
And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. A windstorm arose on the sea, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?”
Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm. They were amazed, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?” Matthew 8:23-27
Different people hear a story like this in different ways. Some people just accept the story at face value. They see the story in their minds’ eye as they read. They see the waves crashing into the boat. They imagine Jesus as they have always imagined Jesus, their imagination defined by a stained glass window or an illustration in a childhood Sunday School lesson.

Read Matthew 8:1-4
This account of Jesus’ compassion is amazing and beautiful, because in the first century, leprosy was a slow and painful killer that was almost always fatal. The few survivors that overcame the disease were often left with hideous and painful physical scars.  They also had to deal with the emotional scars left by a superstitious public that believed that contracting the disease was to be put under God’s curse.

Newsletter-The Power Within

The Power Within
God’s Spirit works in every believer. He doesn’t limit Himself to pastors and missionaries. If you’ve received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, then residing within you is the same great power that raised Christ from the dead. (See Rom. 8:11.) The Holy Spirit creates godly character in all who follow the Lord.
The fruit of the Spirit is the character and conduct the Holy Spirit produces in believers (Gal. 5:22-23). These are qualities that we can’t generate consistently on our own. Especially in this season, the most powerful message we can give isn’t a testimony or sermon; it’s the life we live when the pressure is on, temptation is tremendous, or we are buried under an avalanche of problems.

I want to take this time and say thank you to everyone that invested their time, money, and prayers in Rock the Block Back to School Bash. It was a huge success.

We had 5,000 people in attendance, we gave away 1,300 backpacks, we served 3,000 meals. There were 12 people baptized in water, and 3 babies dedicated to the Lord. There were 400 haircuts given, we did 450 family portraits. The Florida Department of Health administered 100 Back to School Immunizations as well as provided shot records for the students. The Polk County Health Department administered 30 HIV tests.

50:20 Vision
God created this world, and “it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). But sin entered this good world, bringing brokenness into all our relationships. At the close of Genesis, however, Joseph notes the saving work of God that reverses this breakdown.
How powerful is God? God can take harmful intentions and use them to accomplish his will. God can take what was meant to harm and use it to save. God can take an instrument of death–the cross–and make it an instrument of life.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:10-11 ESV)
Jesus is the mighty victor who has defeated all of evil’s hosts; conquering death, the power of sin, and the devil himself. As Christians, our concern is conquering power dwelling within us (Ephesians 3:16; 2 Timothy 1:7), and that inward dwelling should bear heavily on our outward living. Jesus’ prayer for us was to be in the world, amidst danger, but shielded and protected from its source (John 17:15) living victoriously over temptation. Too often, we find ourselves buried in the same habitual sin, with real victory seemingly miles away.

God is not a man who lives on if, don’t you know that? Then why do you keep saying, “If the Lord never does anything else for me, He’s done enough,” because we all know that’s a lie. Yes, I am appreciative, grateful, ecstatic and forever indebted to God for what He has already done in my life but I will never ask Him to stop.
Don’t you know that when you use the word if, you’re actually showing doubt which means you really aren’t sure the person who you’re asking can do whatever it is you’re asking them for? When you say, “Lord, I want you to heal me, if it’s your will,” you’re really saying Lord, heal me if you can but hasn’t He already made His will plain? God is a healer, the only thing that is different about our healing is the time it’s actually done.
